Position Summary:
The Construction Technician is responsible for performing a variety of manual and semi-skilled labor duties for the repair, construction and maintenance of our various properties. They are integral to our construction and repair projects, ensuring timely delivery of materials and assisting with various labor tasks on-site. They must possess the physical and mental ability to perform the following tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day, in all weather conditions. Candidates should have a strong work ethic, be dependable, responsible, and committed to producing quality work.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Must be willing and able to perform manual labor related tasks to support projects as directed by the Crew Leader, Foreman, or Superintendent.
- Work on a variety of tasks within any given day
- Have a working knowledge of hand and power tools
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, in all seasons, and weather conditions.
- Climb ladders and work at heights.
- Be able to climb in and out of excavations, and/or other confined or enclosed spaces.
- Loads construction materials, tools and equipment into the company vehicles for each job.
- Ability to operate motorized equipment
- Maintain a clean job site
- Conduct documented pre-shift inspections of equipment for safety and mechanical defects.
- Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
- Perform additional duties as required or directed by their immediate supervisor or other manager.
Skills:
- Skill in communicating with other employees and the public by oral and written means.
- Skill in communicating with internal and external customers, contractors, and governmental agencies.
- Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment typically used in maintenance or construction.
- Knowledge of hazard and safety measures as they apply to the type of work being performed.
- Knowledge of utility safety practices and procedures, including traffic control.
- Understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
Experience & Education:
- 1-2 years of experience on construction sites.
- GED/high school diploma or related work experience.
- Trade school a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record preferred.
- Must have transportation to and from job sites daily.
