Manages the care for a specific group of patients; facilitates the safe movement of patients throughout the continuum of care, ensures optimal utilization of resources, service delivery and compliance with external review agencies, local, state, and federal requirements. Collaborates with patients/families and the healthcare team in the transition planning process. Provides psychosocial assessments, education to patients. Performs other duties as assigned.

Principal Duties:

  • Build relationships with patients, listen and reassure them
  • Give advice and arrange support for patients and relatives
  • Give the prescribed medication
  • Maintain patient’s records
  • Encourage patients to engage in therapeutic activities
  • Share their patient’s insight with other healthcare professionals
  • Work with collaborating physician to improve practice

Essential Job Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to identify and coordinate appropriate resources in the community.
  • Ability to work with people of all social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Computer skills.

Experience & Education:

Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric nursing

Graduation from a state-certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health

At least 1-2 years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders

Ability to work with both adult and youth/child populations 

Must be certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

An unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Mississippi

Must have a valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Mississippi

No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP)

Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance payers
